Somewhere Where It Is White

July 22, 2013

After a week of speed and rink hockey, we finally had a day off. Four of us took at three-hour drive down to Alamogordo, New Mexico to visit the White Sands National Monument. We only knew about this place after looking at the state from Google satellite view. After a little researching, we thought it was going to be worth the drive - and it was amazing.

Rolling in Albuquerque

July 20, 2013

Spending a couple of weeks down in Albuquerque shooting the roller sport national championships with Callam Sports Photography (same group that I shoot with at a lot of Nebraska high school sports).

The first part of the trip has been busy with the speed skating and hockey. It's pretty much like it sounds (and similar to the ice hockey events), but it is long days, a strong smell of the finished wood flooring and just a lot of images.

Here are a few peeks into what life has been like the last week.

A Change of Face

July 10, 2013

In one evening, the whole building looks incredibly different. People on the street will definitely notice the change tomorrow morning.

Thanks to a ton of help from friends and family, we were able to disassemble and remove the overhang tonight with no injuries or broken windows (except for the one window that was already broken).

Now, the second row of windows are open for the first time in more than half a century. We have removed the false ceiling on the inside and now the boards/overhang on the outside, allowing tons of light in and revealing the original front of the building.

Just wanted to send a big shout out and thank you to everyone who helped tonight and throughout this first phase of this project! That includes (but not limited to): mom, dad, Gabe, Chrissy, Abby, Lance, Chris, Jared, Clark, Keith, Robert, Debbie, Curt, Lonnie and many more!

Friends, Family, Freedom and Fireworks

July 04, 2013

Spent the last two days hanging out with family and friends. Some people consider fireworks just literally blowing up money. But I enjoy it and I enjoy all of the quality time to spend with everyone who is important to me.

I think one reason why this has been one of my favorite times of the year is all of the consistently good memories that come to mind. The years at Grandpa and Grandma's farm swimming, eating chocolate chip cookies and blowing up pop cans. And then there has been times I've celebrated the Fourth while in Mexico and Washington, D.C. Talk about two different situations, but both are great memories thanks to the people who I've been around.

Here's to the close of another fun and memorable Fourth of July!

Fire in the Sky

July 02, 2013

The Fourth of July is probably my favorite holiday. I think it's the cool summer nights (at least hopefully cool) and long days. It's baseball and boating. It is the season for horse shows, swimming and grilling. Oh, and there are fireworks!

Tonight I went to Tecumseh to possibly snap a few photos - or just to watch. Came away with a few hundred images, some free bug spray courtesy of the wonderful people of the area and another little small town, summer night.
